Venezuelan Election: Bleak

Publius rounds up Hugo Chavez' charade. 20% turn-out.
...the fingerprint machines are recording voters’ choices, something that could lead to retribution for those whose choices do not win, and other setups that should lead to a rigged result. It’s a sad picture.

Here's a debate we had not long ago on Venezuela.

Update, Aug 9: Chavez rails against the U.S.

Its very hard to find objective news about Venezuela. The media is all partisan, probably reflecting the divide in the country at the moment.

Taking statistics from both sides Chavez won 80% of a 10% turnout.

Hard to see any wood for trees. All of my friends in the venezuela solidarity have parents who are on the other side of the political divide.
