Amazing Grace (Movie)

Watched the movie Amazing Grace last night.

Excellent in every respect. I recommend it very highly.

Different things stand out to different people. Here's what stood out to me.

William Wilberforce, early on, stands up in Britain's House of Commons and speaks. He knows he'll make everybody there furious with him. He knows they'll shout him down. And they do. I envy that courage.

More on William Wilberforce.

Update: Wow. Coincidence or Providence? "On March 25, 1807, two hundreds years ago today, Parliament passed An Act for the Abolition of the Slave Trade."

Coincidence? Providence? How about neither? Maybe the movie was released near the bicentennial date on purpose. That might limit the days you'd be likely to blog about it. Seriously, you should have your Skeptic card revoked.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. I love that it's directed by Michael Apted, a guy with an amazingly diverse filmography. Sally and I watched his entire "Up Series" (7 disks), and I recommend it highly. He also directed Coal Miner's Daughter, and "Enough" with J. Lo. Incidentally (coincidentally? providentially?) my cousin appeared as Lopez's daughter in that movie.

I owe you a response on that habeas post. Thanks for your patience, Scrut.
